This NC wedding photographer is behind on blogging because of all the weddings and engagement sessions I did in the fall. Fall is a great time to have engagement photos done in NC because of the pretty leaves and cooler temperatures. I especially loved photographing Faith and Phil because they really wanted to have fun in their pictures. They came geared with their NC State shirts, football and a whole lot of personality. As a wedding photographer with photo sessions like these I still like to keep the mom's and grandmas in mind who are wanting that traditional picture of the couple staring at the camera, ultimately making everyone happy with the engagement photos.

There are so many NC wedding photographers. Raleigh,NC has over 200 photographers. So how do you narrow it down to the perfect person for your wedding day? The most important thing is; Do you love the photographers work? Do the wedding photographs capture the true emotion of the wedding? Are the pictures of high quality?

Do you love the wedding photographers work? In my case the typical NC bride is looking for an artsy flair. Michelle Gunton Photography couples are wanting photojournalistic moments, but with a special added touch in the tenting of the wedding photographs. A Raleigh, NC wedding couple looking for strictly traditional portraits/pictures is not the right couple for me. However a couple wanting both artsy and traditional pictures would be because it still allows me to do what I love and that is artsy.

Do the wedding photographs capture the true emotion of the wedding?
A true wedding photojournalist can make you feel the emotion from the day by looking at their wedding pictures. When choosing a wedding photographer, whether its in NC or California, ask yourself does the photographers work make you feel something, does it make you feel like you were there?

Are the wedding pictures of high quality?
The quality of your bridal portraits, engagement pictures, and wedding photographs should be important in your decision making. NC wedding photographers are not cheap, why would you pay a lot of money to someone to capture one of the most important days of your life if their pictures weren't of top standards? I hope you wouldn't. I personally use a Canon 5D Mark2, which allows me to shoot in very dark situations, without having to much grain.

Blog has moved here After a rain delay two weeks ago, we were finally able to do my best friend's maternity pictures. Hair and make-up was done by Ginger Mullins. Renee's husband suggested we somehow incorporate his red camaro into the pictures, so we did just that, and I loved how they turned out. The baby is due Sept 27th, however the doctors are thinking c-section possibly in 2wks. Sooo looking forward to Arya's arrival, she is loved by many. I love you Renee.

Blog has moved Nc wedding photography Van and Jenni's wedding was held at Jordan Lake,NC. This park has a great wood covered area that will hold over 500 wedding guest, with the lake in walking distance. I was born and raised in Myrtle Beach,SC so when Jenni asked if we could take some pictures by the beach I was super excited.

Jenni is a wedding referral from Erica and Adam whose wedding I photographed last year.

I was really happy with how the pictures turned out.

They use to reside in Raleigh and I am flattered that they would drive 2 hrs for my photography services. The portrait session started out good, but went south very quickly. The 2 yr old didn't nap on the way over so by the time he got to me he was tired. It was a BIG challenge to get anything from him but in the slide show you will see there were a few laughing moments. I must give Kudos to mom and dad for keeping calm. If you are looking for a session in Greensboro, of any kind, its $300.00 for my travel and the portrait session. Pictures sold a la carte.

Baby Shower Photographer Raleigh NC

My best friend Renee is due Sept 27th so we held her baby shower this weekend in Raleigh. I will be photographing her maternity pictures in 2 wks. Marsha,Renee's cousin, and myself made this baby shower game up and thought we would share since everyone thought it was a hit. We divided everyone up in teams of four. The group of 4 had 4 receiving blankets and 4 baby safety pins. You had 3 minutes to make a bathing suit on Renee using only the items you were given. I would love to show all of those pictures during that time but out of respect for Renee we will keep some things private. There was alot of laughter during this time, who knew you could come up with 4 different ways to make a bathing suit. If you are looking for a crowd pleaser for your baby shower, this is the game.

New Blog moved hereAs a Raleigh Wedding photographer there are times as an artist where you just want to photograph for yourself and not have the pressure or the expectations of someone else. This session is just that. Courtney and Johnny are a couple, not married or engaged and kindly agreed to be my models for my photo session. I wasn't sure this would even happen b/c of the rain but a wedding photographer friend of mine, Brian Mullins, informed me I could put a trash bag over my camera and shoot through a hole. Ummm can you say scary,lol. I trusted him though and gave it a shot. Let me just say I don't know how photographers back in the day use to shoot with a black cloth over their head. I felt inhibited, a little claustrophobia, but in the end it was better than no shooting at all. For my photography buff's this whole session was photographed with available light, no flash was used. I wanted to go back in time but knew I would need help doing so. With the time frame I was dealing with I knew I would need someone who could do both hair and make-up. Ginger Mullinswas the prefect fit. I don't even know where to begin about Ginger. The picture I sent to her letting her know what my vision was, is exactly what the end result was. She transformed Courtney right before my eyes and when Courtney walked out in her dress, my mouth dropped. Courtney looked like she had just stepped out of a 1920's time zone. Courtney's hair style is called a "Finger Wave", and it means just that, Ginger did the hair style with her fingers and a comb. The amazing thing is that Ginger had not done a Finger Wave in about 15 years, but you would have thought she did it every day by the art she produced on Courtney's head, and yes I said art b/c it was. Its funny I actually met Nick and Barbara at an open house at another wedding venue. Day of the wedding, well lets just say it was hot, heat index was over a 100. I of course in mostly all black was sweating bullets. Here's how I look at it though, if I had a choice of photographing an inside wedding or outside I would choose outside any day. Just my preference though, to each his own. Brier Creek Country Club Raleigh, NC is a special place to me b/c it was the first place I ever photographed a wedding.

I checked email yesterday to find my wedding photographs had placed in a photo contest. Its a contest held by the WPS(wedding photographic society) a group of the best Raleigh,NC wedding photographers and surrounding areas. So I am honored to say the least. Congrats to all the other winners as well. The best part of it all, is I am tied for 1st place in the overall standings through the 2nd quarter. I love being a wedding photographer because of the moments I get to freeze in time that can allow my clients to treasure them forever.

New blog has moved to here. Barclay Villa, Angier, NC is a beautiful castle setting for a wedding. The day of Kristen's bridal portrait it was exceptionally hot outside. I knew this when booking her session so I photographed her at 10am in the morning. During the summer heat its nearly impossible to do an afternoon session without having your face look hot and sweaty. Other wedding photographers do it but I strongly suggest a morning bridal session and I'm sure Kristin and past brides of mine would agree. Kristin is what I would call a traditional bride. I normally attract brides looking for an artistic style but with Kristen I felt she rode the fence of wanting artsy and traditional photographs which is still a perfect fit because I get to do my special things with some pictures and she gets her traditional type pictures.

Please visit new blog here for pictures Raleigh Wedding Photographer was looking forward to photographing Alicia and Joseph's wedding, one because it gave me an opportunity to get out of Raleigh,NC and head south to Carthage, NC where the wedding ceremony was held. 2 the flower station was doing the flowers. Alicia's bouquet of flowers were all peonies, and man were they beautiful. I arrived 30mins early at the church to get a feel for the place before the bride arrived, and to my surprise the ac was not on. It was over 85 outside. Needless to say it was set on a timer and 45 mins later it kicked on. Alicia and Joseph chose to break with tradition and see each other before the wedding ceremony and I thought I had experienced a powerful moment last year when Karen and Luis saw each other before their wedding, but this one topped it. Alicia and I were standing alone in the church when she begin to cry and tell me how much they had been through the past 5yrs and how special this day was for her. The hair on my arms was standing up and I too started to tear up. Moments like this are why I love being a photographer.

We did 90% of the formal portraits before the wedding ceremony to allow for more one on one time photographing the bride and groom after the ceremony. The wedding reception was held at another favorite venue of mine, Little River Golf Resort. When the sun goes down over the golf course its a beautiful site, however on this day we had clouds roll in so we worked with what we were given.

Please view pictures at new blog here Sometimes the job of a children's photographer can be challenging when the child is only 2 years old. I photographed Tanner when he was a newborn, then again when he was one, and was so pleased when Jess won 2nd place in my 1st ever facebook photo contest. These are the images from the session she won. Tanner really had no desire to sit or stand still for any long period of time. So if I had to run after him I did, if I had to lay on the ground to get to his level I did. I basically let Tanner be a kid and run and play in the park. Children's session can be held in Raleigh,NC or Wake Forest, NC, anywhere a kid can be a kid. Being a children's photographer is fun and I look forward to photographing your child.

To view pictures please visit new blog here I was actually lucky to get Amanda and Pat's wedding because her original photographer had to back out, my gain. We photographed Amanda's bridal session at Yates Mill Pond. I love the place but I don't like the snakes,lol. Amanda's wedding was at Duke Chapel in Durham , NC and the reception followed at the Capital City Club in downtown Raleigh, NC. I had never photographed at either so I was excited for the big day. When I arrived at Duke chapel for the rehearsal of the wedding, I was in such awe of the beauty this church portrayed. The architecture was incredible, the spotlights that light the stage really help a photographer in dark situations like Duke Chapel and Blanche the wedding director was very helpful with every one's needs.

Amanda's mom made all the wedding flower bouquets for the bridal party and I must say I was very impressed. Its very hard to keep Hydrangeas fresh looking but she pulled it off, along with a beautiful wedding. Pam thank you for being appreciative of my work, I so enjoyed working with you. Most of the time I work very closely with the bride but this wedding I worked more with the mom because of the bride's schedule.

In closing I must say I LOVE Duke Chapel weddings, and want to photograph more there:-)

I had never photographed a wedding at the 1st united methodist church in Cary,NC, so was excited to say the least. When I arrived the sun was shining and the groomsmen had not quite arrived for their formal pictures, so I photographed the property and got familiar with the church rules. The beautiful, beautiful flowers were done by Brides & Bouquets in Cary,NC. The groomsmen arrived a little late so I knew it was my job to keep things rolling. The groomsmen wanted to lift Matt up which provided us with some good moments. I'm not a photographer who only shoots when everyone is finally in place, I like to capture the moments that happen in between. After wrapping up with the guys I headed over to the Matthew's House in cary nc to photograph the bridesmaids with Courtney. Having a beautiful bridal party really makes my job easy. We then headed back over to the church for the wedding ceremony where 200 guest awaited. I must say I was a little surprised with the area of which I was told I could photograph, basically a 6 inch opening through the doors out in the foyer. When the wedding ceremony was over the sky fell out. It rained so hard, so we had to make do and take the pictures inside the church. Thanks to Courtney's dad who walked me to my car with an umbrella over my head to protect my cameras, we were both soaked by the time we got to my car. A very special thank you to the staff at the Matthew's house. I appreciate everything you do for me and am glad to call you my friends. The Matthews House puts on great events. Chef Richard, Linda, Nina, and April are really good people and care about making your wedding the best it can be. The Matthews House also offers catering off site if you decide to have your wedding/reception somewhere else. Please enjoy the moments of Matt and Courtney's wedding. The Historic Crenshaw Hall wedding/corporate venue is located in Wake Forest NC. I am a preferred wedding photographer vendor for Crenshaw so I am excited to show photographs from Meghan and Les wedding. Meghan and Les did a release of the butterflies at the end of the ceremony right before their kiss and I must admit I wasn't really sure how it would turn out in the pictures but to my surprise the butterflies really showed up.Suggestion...go with medium size butterflies that have color, they will have most visibility to the camera.

I love the cake topper they had for their wedding cake, being an artistic photographer, I had to give the wedding photograph an artsy feel to it. The rings, well let me just say that Les set the standards high for me when it came to photographing their rings b/c I had seen a picture he had done and it was awesome. I think they will be very happy with my version as well. It was a beautiful day for a wedding and I am so glad I was the raleigh photographer.

Jessica contacted me in April of 09' looking for a photographer for her wedding, its hard to believe we have worked together for over a year. The outside wedding ceremony was held May 15th,2010 in Southern Pines, NC. I must admit what I really liked with this couple was they never gave a photography list of "must haves", never requested the first thing, and 100% totally put their trust in me to capture their wedding my way. The first time I ever got a "must have" list, 2 pages long, I worried more about what was on that list and was not able to focus as much on the photojournalistic moments that were happening around me, so honestly I stopped telling brides to give me a list, and if a bride ever asks me if they can give me a list, I tell them my thoughts and then if they still want to give me a list I happily accept. Deanna decided to have her senior portraits done in my studio. My job as the photographer is to find out a little about her personality leading up to the senior session so that her photographs reflect her. I soon realized she was into glam. I normally don't do alot of glamorizing on children's faces b/c being a mother myself keeping the innocence as long as you can is priceless, but with these Senior portraits I knew it was what my client wanted and in the end they loved their photographs.

Looking for a NC wedding photographer , well you have come to the right place. I wanted to share this wedding photograph that I turned into a piece of art. I try to give all my bride and grooms a little special something that you might not get from another photographer. There was nothing wrong with the original photograph you could see the detail in the wedding dress, the skin tones were good but I knew immediately when I pulled it up in Photoshop it was going to be a piece of art. Don't be scared by the boldness of this portrait, all your pictures wont look like this. Kimberly and Chris's wedding was at St. Mary's Chapel in Raleigh and the reception was held at Tir Na Nog in downtown. Kimberly was probably one of the calmest easy going brides I have ever met. No matter what situation was put in front of her she handled herself with grace. Her son Gavin well, he stole my heart and the show. Some of the ladies had just got into their dress and Gavin says" you sure look pretty grandma" and then turns around and says to me " you look really pretty, too. See why I love being a photographer? Later after the ceremony I asked Gavin if he would come stand by me to help me, that I needed help making the ladies laugh. I really just wanted him to stand with me to get him out of the picture put Gavin took his role very seriously and started acting silly. He put on a great show and made everyone laugh. I am a photographer who embraces kids at weddings, especially for moments like this.

What shall this Raleigh portrait photographer blog about today.....
How about a newborn session. People these days might think that I'm just a wedding photographer because my website is more wedding oriented, but that's not the case. I started in this business photographing children, mom's to be and then the newborns but after assisting on a wedding I was hooked, so now I do it all.
Newborn portrait sessions are unpredictable. You never know if you are going to have a crying baby, a good sleepy baby, a baby that poops and pees every time you take their diaper off, no matter what I get I always stay calm and relaxed and stay on the babies time.

What shall this Raleigh wedding photographer blog about today? I remember the day Tyler called me inquiring about her wedding date. I quickly informed her that another bride was also thinking about May 1st, and that its a first come first serve basis, Tyler did not hesitate, after a 20min phone conversation Tyler faxed over the wedding contract and the retainer. Lets talk about how much fun I had at Tyler and Michael's wedding in Washington NC. The wedding was held at Tyler's mom house. Having never been there before I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to a house sitting nestled beside a beautiful lake. The guest list consisted of over 375 guest and a famous band known as the Tams, hit song "be young be foolish but be happy", what more could anyone want? I saw a totally different side of Tyler when the Tam's started, she was a dancing fool, and I mean that in a good way. She was not scared to have fun and dance the night way. I was so excited for her and watching her dream day play out, that I think I shook my booty a few times. I have made a friend in Tyler. Thank you Tyler for trusting me as your wedding photographer.

What shall this Raleigh photographer blog about today?How about Wyatt and Tonya's portrait session at E. Carroll Joyner Park in Wake Forest,NC. I actually found out about this park by a bride whose wedding I am photographing in Raleigh, thank you Rebekah. Wyatt's dad is a fireman so Tonya thought it would be cute to put him in the turn out gear. I suggested a tattoo of some sort and just by chance her husband had one at the fire station, it made for some really cute pictures. I chose to use some available light and one shot produced, is what I call a perfect picture, no alterations were made to the picture, its straight out of the camera(3rd picture down). Wyatt and I played like pirates, blew bubbles and just did what kids like to do, have fun all the while capturing great moments and portraits of art. Thank you Tonya for a great session, you are beautiful and your son is sooo well behaved.

Wow, I am so honored right now. I am in a group called the WPS, wedding photographic society, and we get together once a month and talk, share ideas, trying to bring the wedding standards of our industry up. They decided this year to do quarterly contests and 2 out of the 4 images I submitted placed, there were 98 submissions. Judges comments on the picture below were
"The repetition of the flowers draw my eye to the bridesmaid. I like the yellowish-red tones which the photographer opted to take with this image."
4th place Artistic category

"Shhhhh. You can tell the little boy was in the middle of a sentence but was interrupted with an aggressive hand. Nice job by the photographer to scan the space and look for images outside the box."
5th place Photojournalism

I call myself an artistic photojournalist so to place in those 2 categories really means alot to me!

Amanda's bridal session was originally going to be at Duke Gardens because she is getting married at Duke Chapel but after thinking about it she decided she didn't want the traditional type bridal portraits, she wanted different and artsy, so she decided on Yates Mill Pond in Raleigh. Amanda was not worried about her wedding dress getting dirty on the bottom and was up for trying anything. I must say I loved her added touch of the blue boots. Her mom said she was the biggest tom boy growing up but you would never know that by looking at her beauty in these pictures.

Wedding season is in full force. I was so excited when Kimberly chose me as her wedding photographer because her wedding was taking place at the Sutherland in Wake Forest, a venue I have not yet photographed. We couldn't have asked for better weather during the engagement session, sunny and 73. Kimberly wanted to do the session at her moms house in Raleigh, which I must say was Beautiful, and that's an understatement :-) Kimberly and Kyle were very laid back and willing to just have fun, and be playful with each other. Alvin and Melissa Cotto with We cook 4 u catering referred Michelle to me and we did all our corresponding about her wedding day through email. This may not be for everyone but this way worked best for Michelle and her schedule. It was a beautiful day for pictures. I will let you in on a little secret..I cried at least 3 times during this wedding/reception. The good thing is having a camera pratically glued to your face the whole time no one ever knows. One of the things I love about being a photographer is I get to capture the emotion of your wedding.

I remember the day I met Jenni. Jenni had saw a picture I had taken of another bride standing by a butterfly and well Jenni was having a butterfly themed wedding. The meeting went well we said our goodbyes and then I looked out the window a couple minutes later and saw they were pulling back in. Mom came in with her checkbook and said Jenni wants you to photograph her wedding. Jenni gave me free liberty to be as creative as I wanted and told me all the way I trust your judgement do your thing. I love it when a bride does that,she still told me her must haves. We photographed Jenni's bridal session at MacGregor Downs Country club and then headed down to Raleigh for the butterfly shot. I have to say the picture Jenni picked for her bridal portrait to be displayed at her reception was and is still my favorite bridal portraits of all times, you can see below. We had so much fun goofing off during the session, the enagagement session and wedding were no different. The wedding party was a hoot and as you can see down below, loved to goof off. During formals I try to catch moments like that. I hope you enjoy.

I unfortunately was booked for Rachel's April wedding, but told her I could still photograpgh her bridal portrait, did she want to come to Raleigh? After much talk she decided to have me come to the Proximity Hotel in Greensboro,NC to take her pictures. Man ohhh man, was I like a kid in a candy store. There were so many different spots to photograph. The place has a very contemporary, modern look and feel. I fell in love with it and would love to go back. I will travel anywhere.

St.Marks Chapel + Cafe Luna Raleigh Wedding, Erin&Sheridan

Back in January I met Erin and Sheridan at the Forever Bridal Show in Raleigh,NC. We soon starting corresponding through emails about their upcoming wedding and then met at my studio to discuss their vision for the photography of the wedding. They were having a small intimate wedding at St. Marks Church in Mordecai Park with a reception to follow at Cafe Luna. They were looking for a little bit of everything. The most important thing to them was capturing the emotion of the wedding but with an artistic approach, I knew then they were a perfect couple for me. During Sheridan's wedding toast he said that " Happy use to be a word and now it is a state of being" I cant take credit for this but its ironic that when I made them a wedding dvd slideshow the song I used was called "Happy". Jeff and Holly were a referral from another photographer. They were married at the Revolution in Greensboro,NC We did not meet until the night before the wedding. We did everything by phone and email leading up to the wedding. Holly as well as myself was so worried about the weather for her wedding day. It was calling for alot of rain. The day of the wedding the wedding coordinator kept asking for a call whether to move the wedding inside but Holly held strong and sure enough 40 minutes before the wedding the sun came out which made for better pictures. Holly was a more traditional bride and wanted the moments captured, not so much posing. So thats what we went with, capturing the moments.

Love love love me some Becky. Her love for life, family, horses is refreshing. The sun did not want to shine on our perfect plan so I created this picture for her since this is what we had envisioned. This horse was not sure about having his picture taken, but he did good for a first timer,lol.

By this time the sun had gone down and we were all in total darkness, I couldn't see her through my view finder so after each picture I would look at the camera to see if she needed to move anything. Raleigh wedding photographer

It was an over cast day when we did Jenni's bridal session at Mcgregor Downs Country Club in Cary. I love how the wind made her dress flow in the back, I wanted to take it to the next step and turn it into a piece of art.

I love being a wedding photographer!Karen and Luis were married at The Matthew's House in Cary,NC. Karen loved my artistic view so I made this for her to give her a piece of art.

On formals I like to give some extra lovin too. The first wedding image is correctly exposed and looks as it does the day of but it needed something. Not all pictures allow me to turn things into art. Directly after the ceremony after we photograph the formals/family, I then spend a little time just photographing the bride and groom, this is where the art normally comes, again I love being a wedding photographer.

Sometimes you cant control your acne no matter what you try, no worries I can fix it to some degree. Ask about details.

Jennifer comes from a referral from her friend whose baby I photographed. Thanks for the referral Darlene. Jennifer and I thought it would be best to do their portrait session in their home. You never know what your going to get when you do a in home session. I was very excited with the decor they had and incorporated it in our shoot. Jennifer even had a snack tray set up for me, now thats hospitality at its best. Both girls were so good, mom got pooped on, and dad pee'd on, lol what do you expect when you photograph babies naked. It made for great laughter.
